Exploring the Future of Associations Using Collective Wisdom and the Worldcafe
Paul Borawski, CAE, Executive Director and Chief Strategic Officer of the American Society for Quality
The future is coming at us at an ever increasing rate. How can we look ahead - to anticipate our future in meaningful ways? Those who develop anticipatory skills will have advantage over those who wait for the future to arrive. ASAE and The Center for Association Leadership have invested in research that suggests there are 8 mega trends shaping the future of associations. CESSE would like to use those trends as a context for exploring the questions we think will be most pressing - or most important to us. We will use the Worldcafe technology to discuss the mega trends and use our collective wisdom to develop a list of most pressing questions.
The benefits of participating are -
- Being introduced, or reminded, of Mapping the Future of Your Association ASAE & The Center for Association Leaderships research on the future of associations.
- Being introduced, or again immersed, in WorldCafe technology to explore questions that matter
- To help shape the future of CESSE though the identification of the most pressing, future facing, question of our industry.

Creating and Leading Cultures of Innovation
Brian Christian, Principal, DASO Consulting

As non-profit Association leaders, we have to articulate and execute a vision that reflects and wins support among our leadership team and inspires accomplishment in our staff. So, how do we change our approach to stimulate innovation in our Associations in a way that leads to tangible short-term and long-term success? What are the necessary leadership behaviors, organization design principles, operating processes and tools & techniques that will create a sustainable innovation capability? Learn from a program moderated by experts in the fields of innovation and association culture, and four distinguished panelists who lead a diverse group of engineering and scientific societies.
Session will give details on -
- How to become and remain inspired personally, balancing legislative leadership with visionary leadership, to inspire your organizations and create a culture of innovation.
- Practicing stewardship and conservative resource management in a manner consistent with best Association practices while adapting the best lessons of entrepreneurial commercial companies.
